Amsoft is now ready for Windows 7.

We did have to make a few adjustments. Not because of Windows 7, but because most new machines will be 64 bit, instead of 32 bit.

64 bit machines cannot use drivers built for 32 bit machines.

So, if you have printers & scanners on 32 bit machines, these will have to be upgraded.

In our case, the tiff driver would not work. This has been fixed, and everything looks good.

If you upgrade to windows 7 on a new machine you should do the following:

Install from you current cd.

Then download from the web, save to your desktop and install the upgrade from there. .

Have you had a chance to look at our forums? We will also be posting each newsletter on the forum. This way you can easily see if you've missed anything. We are hoping that this can be a great resource for our agents.

It would be great if you could take a look at them, and perhaps make some entries.

For example: maybe under scanning, mention how it is working in your agency. Perhaps under the tiff driver, mention how you use it and some of the benefits.

There is also a section for suggestions. Use this section to ask for things you need.

Finally there is a section happy user comments. It would be great if you could post something there so agents evaluating Amsoft could see how the agents feel about it!

Are there any agents interested in check by phone or fax. This allows your insured to send you there checking information, which will allow you to make a deposit right away.

We have added a forum to our website. It can also be accessed from with in Amsoft. We had a forum before but it was attached by spammers. It is now protected from spammers. One last thing: Backups

Every once in a while we run into an agent, that has had a computer failure. This could be from hardware failure or nature. Things such as (Fire, floods hurricanes or earthquakes. We always feel bad when a user has one of these failures & looses all there data with no backup. This means they must start from scratch.

So we suggest 2 different backups. One should be local maybe using a portable hard drive. The other should be online. This link is to our website. Look for the link to the carbonite online backup. It runs about $50.00 a year.

Turning amsoft into a paperless office

Scanning; allows you to attach images to any client. The images can be attached through scanning. Using the tiff driver you can send anything you can print to the scanning section, without printing then scanning.

We have a few tutorials on scanning. This one may be particularly helpful.

We have a new tiff driver.

You will need this driver if you use a 64 bit computer.

Most window 7 computers are 64 bit.

The new driver will work on both 32 & 64 bit machines.

It is included in our download file.

I started with Amsoft in 2000 and have stayed with them ever since. Not only is the program great, the people are even better. I am not the best on the computer, so when I bought this program, Wendy allowed me to come to her office and she went over the program with me and spent as much time as I needed. When I needed help after that, I called and spoke with Gary, who not only took the time I needed for my questions to be answered, but was just as friendly and helpful as Wendy was.

After 9 years with Amsoft, I can honestly say that they are still the best people I do business with. They still take as much time as I need and they never make me feel like a burden to them, as I do call them several times a year. Everytime I have a suggestion, they listen and if it is something they can do for me, they do it immediately.

I started using Amsoft because our small office could no longer afford the system we were using and their was no customer service with them. Nine years later, I can honestly say that I have no desire to look elsewhere.

When you find the best, you stay with them.

I greatly appreciate Gary, Wendy and their staff and highly recommend them to anyone. Their people are the best and their system is fantastic.

Preview your e-mails - Windows Mail/Outlook Express

Just a tip for making sure the e-mail you are sending out has working links, and looks like you intend...(for Windows Mail and Outlook Express)

Start a new message, then go to 'View' up at the top, and then click 'Source Edit' if it doesn't already have a check next to it. This will put tabs at the bottom of your e-mail window... 'Edit', 'Source', and 'Preview'.

As you are creating your e-mail, you will be on the edit tab... but if you want to check your links, etc... click on the preview tab, and you will be able to see exactly what is going out, and click on any links to make sure they are good.

Using Windows Vista & the Aero style, Text or buttons may be clipped.

To solve this follow these steps.

1. Go to to the control panel.
2. Go to Appearance & Personalize.
3. In Personalize select window color.
4. Near the bottom of the screen, click on the open classic appearance properties.
5. With Windows Aero scheme selected, click advanced.
6. From the drop down list, select border padding. Set it to either 0 or 1 and save your changes.

Then reboot.

What does DataXchange do

DataXchange Takes data from your client in Amsoft. This would include things like Company, policy#, address, & Coverages from Home or vehicle. It will pin this information on the right side of the screen.

It will also load the company website for the current insured.

You can then highlight any data, click on the field on the website & click on the send to button. This will move the data from Am soft to the field on the web page.

This can be used to fill in web pages or any windows program.

Currently you can export client data, home coverage data & Auto data.

Other data will be added shortly, Like commercial property.

Prospects & ACORD forms

You know we have a prospect section. Prospects should be entered here with a suspense date.

But what about prospects that you need to fill in ACORD forms for. You could enter them in the prospect section. Then enter all there information in the ACORD form. Then when you write it re enter all the information in the client section.

Or for this type of prospect, enter the information in the client screen. To indicate this client as a prospect start the account code with a asterisk (*). For example *gahoff. This will list all your prospects together. This saves a lot of data entry.

The you can go to the accord section and import data into the ACORD forms. When you write the policy remove the * from the account code & save the record. This means all information will be in the correct location.

Other things you may want to do when entering a prospect into the client section make the binder date & expiration date today. There is a field for prospect you might enter Yes there.

What is xcharge

Xcharge is a way to charge an insured's premium to his credit card. The credit card can be processed through amsoft in about 15 seconds. This will give you immediate approval.

This is a great tool for down payments or for when a policy is about to expire due to non payment.
